Here are some passages
relating to physical problems or suffering. They give some good things to think
and meditate on.
- 5 ¶ Thus saith the
LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm,
and whose heart departeth from the LORD. 6 For he shall be like the heath in
the desert, and shall not see when good cometh; but shall inhabit the parched
places in the wilderness, in a salt land and not inhabited. 7 Blessed
is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is. 8 For
he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her
roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be
green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease
from yielding fruit. 14Heal me, O LORD, and I shall be healed; save me, and I
shall be saved: for thou art my praise. (Jeremiah 17:5-8,14
AV)
- Deuteronomy 32:39 ¶
See now that I, even I, am he, and there is no god with
me: I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal: neither is there any
that can deliver out of my hand.
- Psalms 6:2 Have
mercy upon me, O LORD; for I am weak: O LORD, heal me; for my bones are
vexed.
- Psalms 6:4 Return, O
LORD, deliver my soul: oh save me for thy mercies’
sake.
- Romans 9:20 Nay but,
O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to
him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus? 21 Hath not the potter
power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and
another unto dishonour?
- 1 O LORD, thou hast
searched me, and known me. 2 Thou knowest my downsitting and mine
uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off. 3 Thou compassest my path
and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways. 4 For there
is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O LORD, thou knowest it
altogether. 5 Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon
me. 6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I
cannot attain unto it. 7 ¶ Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or
whither shall I flee from thy presence? 8 If I ascend up into heaven, thou
art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. 9
If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost
parts of the sea; 10 Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand
shall hold me. 11 If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night
shall be light about me. 12 Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the
night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike
to thee. 13 For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in
my mother’s womb. 14 I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and
wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul
knoweth right well. 15 My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in
secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. 16
Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all
my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned,
when as yet there was none of them. 17 ¶ How precious also are thy
thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them! 18 If I should
count them, they are more in number than the sand: when I awake, I am still
with thee. 19 Surely thou wilt slay the wicked, O God: depart from me
therefore, ye bloody men. 20 For they speak against thee wickedly, and
thine enemies take thy name in vain. 21 Do not I hate them, O LORD,
that hate thee? and am not I grieved with those that rise up against thee? 22
I hate them with perfect hatred: I count them mine enemies. 23 Search me, O
God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: 24 And see if there
be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. (Psalms
139:1-24 AV)
- 1 ¶ Therefore being
justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: 2 By
whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and
rejoice in hope of the glory of God. 3 And not only so, but we glory in
tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; 4 And patience,
experience; and experience, hope: 5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the
love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto
us. (Romans 5:1-5 AV)
- 19 Remembering mine
affliction and my misery, the wormwood and the gall. 20 My soul hath
them still in remembrance, and is humbled in me. 21 ¶ This I recall to
my mind, therefore have I hope. 22 It is of the LORD’S mercies that we
are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. 23 They are new
every morning: great is thy faithfulness. 24 The LORD is my
portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him. 25 The LORD is
good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him. 26
It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the
salvation of the LORD. 27 It is good for a man that he bear the yoke in
his youth. 28 He sitteth alone and keepeth silence, because he hath borne
it upon him. 29 He putteth his mouth in the dust; if so be there may be
hope. 30 He giveth his cheek to him that smiteth him: he is filled full
with reproach. 31 For the Lord will not cast off for ever: 32 But though he
cause grief, yet will he have compassion according to the multitude of his
mercies. 33 For he doth not afflict willingly nor grieve the children of men.
34 To crush under his feet all the prisoners of the earth, 35 To turn aside
the right of a man before the face of the most High, 36 To subvert a man in
his cause, the Lord approveth not. 37 ¶ Who is he that saith,
and it cometh to pass, when the Lord commandeth it not?
(Lamentations 3:19-37 AV)
- 3 ¶ Blessed
be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of
mercies, and the God of all comfort; 4 Who comforteth us in all our
tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by
the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God. (2 Corinthians 1:3-4
AV)
- But he knoweth the
way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.
(Job 23:10 AV)
- But we have this
treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God,
and not of us. (2 Corinthians 4:7 AV)
- Fear thou not; for I
am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will
strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right
hand of my righteousness. (Isaiah 41:10 AV)
- 2 I will go before
thee, and make the crooked places straight: I will break in pieces the gates
of brass, and cut in sunder the bars of iron: 3 And I will give thee the
treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that thou mayest
know that I, the LORD, which call thee by thy name, am the God
of Israel. (Isaiah 45:2-3 AV)
- Thou tellest my
wanderings: put thou my tears into thy bottle: are they not in thy
book? (Psalms 56:8 AV)
- For I know the
thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not
of evil, to give you an expected end. (Jeremiah 29:11
AV)
- Verily, verily, I
say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth
alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit. (John 12:24
AV)
- For my thoughts
are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the
LORD. (Isaiah 55:8 AV)
- The LORD is
the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup: thou maintainest my lot.
(Psalms 16:5 AV)
- 4 Delight thyself
also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. 5 Commit
thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to
pass. (Psalms 37:4-5 AV)
- For we wrestle not
against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against
the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high
places. (Ephesians 6:12 AV)
- But let it be
the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the
ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great
price. (1 Peter 3:4 AV)
- Be still, and know
that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted
in the earth. (Psalms 46:10 AV)
- Come unto me, all
ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. (Matthew
11:28 AV)
- 5 Trust in the LORD
with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6 In all thy
ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. (Proverbs
3:5-6)
- For I reckon that
the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be
compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. (Romans 8:18
AV)
